Access Holdings Overview 

Founded in 2013, Access Holdings (“Access”) is a Baltimore-based private investment firm with approximately $1 billion of Assets Under Management (“AUM”). Access makes direct investments in essential service-based businesses with enterprise values between $50 million - $1 billion. Access Holdings takes a research-based, thematic approach to investing, looking to acquire businesses in niche service industries that are positioned to outperform.  Access seeks to create value over time through active management oversight and support of its portfolio company partners.


Role Overview

Reporting to the Partner in charge of value creation, the Director of Strategy (DS) will play an important role in supporting the growth of Access Holdings and its portfolio companies.  Working closely with Access’ leadership team and team members, the DS will help to shape and advance firm strategy and key initiatives and provide “hands on” problem solving leadership and follow-through.  The DS will also engage directly with Access’ portfolio companies on a variety of strategy, value creation and growth matters.  


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide strategic support to the Access Leadership Team
    • Conduct analysis of relevant ideas and opportunities (e.g., market expansion trends, etc.)
    • Plan and orchestrate quarterly business reviews and annual strategic planning
    • Coordinate the Leadership Team agenda, action items and follow-through
    • Manage and drive strategic projects (e.g., formalizing a new service, etc.)
  • Work closely with investment professionals and portfolio company managers to develop and formalize value creation strategies and execution plans
  • Where appropriate, engage directly on key strategic initiatives (e.g., market expansion, M&A buildout, pricing, etc.)
  • Build effective trust-based relationships with portfolio company executives and board members
  • Collaborate in the development and deployment of Access’ value creation playbooks and tools
  • Cultivate and manage 3rd party relationships that support a variety of value creation efforts
  • Coordinate and/or oversee one or more of Access’ value creation platforms
  • Support the continued enhancement of research, origination, deal execution and other processes and practices conducted by the firm


Professional Qualifications

  • 3-5 years post-MBA experience working in a top tier strategy consulting firm
  • Proven ability to work closely with C-level executives, managers and front-line employees
  • Demonstrated track record of defining AND implementing strategies that deliver results
  • Experience working in or with service-oriented businesses and industries
  • Experience tackling market expansion, go-to-market, digital and other growth-oriented matters
